快速回答

Zhejiang University (浙江大学) is a public research university in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Leapt from 47th to 39th in THE 2026, the largest single-edition rise of any Chinese top-ten university, and stayed in the QS top 50.

Zhejiang University is China's largest comprehensive research university by breadth of disciplines and, after Tsinghua, the strongest in engineering and computer science. It is spread over seven campuses in and around Hangzhou, the city that hosts Alibaba, NetEase and a large share of China's digital economy.

ZJU has the largest international student body of any Chinese university — over 5,500 students from more than 140 countries — and offers English-taught degrees across engineering, agriculture, medicine, business and the arts.

Why international students choose ZJU

  • Best combination of scale, programme choice and international student services in China
  • Hangzhou's lower living costs than Beijing or Shanghai with a comparable tech-job market
  • Strong agriculture, optics and computer science research

Language requirements depend on the track: English and Chinese. Confirm the exact requirement with the international office, because some departments within the same university set different thresholds.

Entry requirements in detail

Bachelor: high school diploma plus an entrance examination for most English-taught tracks; IELTS 6.0–6.5 / TOEFL 80–90 for English programmes, HSK 5 for Chinese-taught. Graduate: bachelor's degree, transcripts, two recommendation letters and a study plan; PhD requires supervisor pre-agreement.

Deadlines, fees and how to apply

Application deadlines: Bachelor: January – April (Haining campus programmes close earlier). Graduate: December – March.. The application fee is CNY 400–600. Applications are submitted through the university's own international admissions system — see the official international office link at the bottom of this page.

The document set is standard across Chinese universities: passport, notarised diploma and transcripts with certified translations, a study plan or research proposal, two recommendation letters for graduate programmes, the Foreigner Physical Examination Form, a police clearance certificate and, for scholarship applicants, a CSCA score report where required. Start with document authentication eight to ten weeks before the deadline.

Tuition and total cost

CNY 24,000–40,000 per year for bachelor's; CNY 30,000–60,000 for English-taught master's; MBBS around CNY 70,000 per year.

Hangzhou is in the East China region. A realistic student budget including accommodation, food, transport and insurance typically sits between CNY 2,100 and 7,000 per month depending on whether you live in a university dormitory and how far the campus is from the city centre.

Scholarships you can apply for

Chinese Government Scholarship, Zhejiang Provincial Government Scholarship, Confucius Institute Scholarship, ZJU International Student Scholarship.

The Chinese Government Scholarship requires a pre-admission document from a target university, which means the university application has to be completed before the CSC deadline. Apply to the university first, indicate every scholarship you are eligible for in the same form, and submit a separate CSC Type A application through your national embassy if its deadline allows.

Faculty and research environment

The university employs around 9,700 academic staff. Around 55 members of the national academies and one of the highest numbers of highly cited researchers in China. The Haining International Campus is staffed and taught entirely in English or bilingual.

Notable alumni

  • Shi Yigong — Structural biologist. ZJU graduate, former president of Tsinghua, now a leading science administrator.
  • Li Ka-shing — Investor. Honorary doctorate; major benefactor of ZJU's medical school.
  • Duan Yongping — Entrepreneur and investor. Founder of BBK and Subor; long-time ZJU supporter.
  • Pony Ma (research ties) — Founder of Tencent. Shenzhen University graduate with close ZJU–industry collaboration.
  • Lu Guanqiu — Industrialist. Founder of Wanxiang Group, one of China's largest automotive parts manufacturers.

How to strengthen your application

  • Lead with the disciplines where ZJU is genuinely strong: Computer Science & Technology, Agricultural Science / Crop Science, Optical Engineering. A study plan that references specific research groups or courses carries far more weight than a general statement.
  • If you are applying for a research degree, contact a prospective supervisor 8–12 months before the deadline with a specific proposal. For Chinese universities this is the single most decisive step.
  • Submit the language evidence the programme actually asks for. If you are applying to an English-taught track, ask which language the examination papers are delivered in before you accept.
  • Apply to more than one university. Chinese scholarship schemes are assessed by different committees and a rejection from one does not affect the others.

Always verify current requirements on the official Zhejiang University international admissions site and on campuschina.org, since deadlines and tuition are revised each cycle.
