Jawaban singkat

What the degree is

The standard programme is a six-year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) taught in English, combining five years of coursework with a one-year clinical internship in an affiliated hospital. Some universities offer a five-year version. Graduates receive a Chinese MBBS degree recognised by the Ministry of Education.

The critical question is not the Chinese recognition but your home country's: licensing bodies in India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere have specific rules about foreign medical degrees, and several now require a qualifying examination before you can practise. Check your national medical council's current list of recognised Chinese universities before you apply — not after.

Costs

Tuition ranges from CNY 45,000 to CNY 80,000 per year depending on the university and city. Sichuan, Central South, Zhengzhou and Jilin are at the lower end; Fudan, SJTU and Zhejiang at the higher end. Living costs add CNY 25,000–45,000 a year.

Total six-year cost is typically CNY 400,000–700,000 including accommodation and living expenses — substantially less than a medical degree in the UK, US or Australia, but not trivial.

Funding

MBBS is eligible for Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) awards, though competition is intense and several embassies give priority to postgraduate applicants. Provincial scholarships — Sichuan, Guangdong, Hubei, Hunan, Shandong, Henan — are more accessible and often waive the full tuition fee.

Some universities offer MBBS-specific partial scholarships, and a small number of home-country governments fund medical study abroad. Note that CSC stipends (CNY 2,500–3,500 per month) do not fully cover the tuition of the most expensive MBBS programmes, so a partial award at an expensive university can still leave a large gap.

Practical advice

Verify the university is on the Ministry of Education list of institutions permitted to run English-taught MBBS programmes, and confirm it appears on your own regulator's recognised list. Ask the international office directly for the pass rates of international students in your home country's licensing examination. And visit or speak to current students in the same cohort before committing — the quality of English-language clinical teaching varies widely between universities.
