Présentation

Shanghai University is the city's largest municipal university, with around 45,000 students and a very large international student population of roughly 3,000. It is strong in materials science, mechanics, metallurgy, sociology and art.

SHU is the most popular Shanghai destination for international students at non-C9 universities, and it runs a highly regarded Chinese-language centre with beginner-to-advanced tracks and multiple entry points each year.

Histoire

SHU was formed in 1994 by the merger of Shanghai University of Technology, Shanghai University of Science and Technology, Shanghai University and Shanghai Institute of Metallurgy (originally founded in 1922 as Shanghai University, a historically radical institution).

It became a Project 211 university in 1997 and gained Double First Class status in 2017. The university's Qian Weichang College, named after its famous former president, offers an elite honours programme.

SHU operates three main campuses in Shanghai — Baoshan, Jiading and Yanchang — and has a large distance-education and international programme portfolio.
